A turnstile gate with facial recognition combines a pedestrian access gate with a compatible biometric identification terminal. Instead of presenting a card or QR code, an enrolled user can request entry by looking toward the terminal. The system checks both identity and access permission before allowing passage.
For offices, factories, gyms, schools, and other controlled entrances, successful deployment depends on more than face-matching performance. Gate design, controller compatibility, data protection, accessibility, and emergency operation must work together.

A facial recognition turnstile is an entrance control arrangement in which a facial recognition device is connected to a turnstile gate. The terminal captures a live face image and checks it against an enrolled identity using its supported recognition method. The access control system then evaluates whether that person is authorized to enter at that location and time.
The facial recognition terminal and the turnstile are different components. The terminal performs identification or verification; the controller or integrated access software handles permissions; and the turnstile controls physical passage. A matching face alone should not automatically grant access without the required authorization checks.
For example, an employee approaches an office speed gate, completes facial verification, and passes through after the system confirms access permission. If the identity is not recognized or access is denied, the gate remains secured according to its configuration.
Facial Recognition Terminal
Camera, processing hardware, display or indicators, and optional presentation-attack detection features, depending on the device.
Access Controller
Evaluates permissions or receives authorization decisions and sends the appropriate control signal to the gate.
Turnstile Gate
Provides physical passage control through swing barriers, retractable panels, rotating arms, or other mechanisms.
Management Software
Manages users, schedules, permissions, devices, and logs where supported by the selected platform.
Network and Power
Connects compatible devices and supports dependable operation, with backup provisions where required.
Safety and Passage Sensors
Support barrier safety, passage detection, and configured anti-tailgating functions, depending on the gate model.
Facial recognition can be integrated with several turnstile mechanisms. The best choice depends on security needs, traffic volume, installation environment, and accessible passage requirements.

Suited to premium office lobbies and high-traffic indoor entrances where fast, controlled passage is important.

Flexible passage widths make them useful for accessible lanes and entrances with varying user needs.

Retractable barriers for offices, campuses, and other managed indoor pedestrian entrances.

Higher sliding barriers can provide a stronger physical separation at selected controlled entrances.

Practical for staff access in factories and gyms; a separate accessible route may be necessary.

Suitable for controlled industrial perimeters and restricted sites, with separate emergency and accessible routes as required.
Product Selection Note: These six categories describe common turnstile mechanisms. YUNSHAO also offers Ticketing Turnstile Gates and Automated Border Control Gates, which are application-specific solutions. Facial recognition compatibility and regulatory requirements must be confirmed for each project.
Some facial recognition terminals connect to turnstiles using relay or dry-contact outputs, while other integrations rely on compatible controllers, network communication, SDKs, or APIs. A shared interface name does not guarantee interoperability. Confirm the exact terminal model, wiring, authorization logic, event feedback, and management software before ordering.
Facial biometric information may be subject to strict privacy laws. Project owners should assess the lawful basis for processing, notice and consent where required, retention limits, access controls, encryption, deletion procedures, and whether a non-biometric alternative is needed. Requirements differ by jurisdiction and use case.
Lighting, camera placement, face coverings, enrollment quality, and device-specific anti-spoofing features can affect performance. Test the selected equipment under realistic site conditions. Fire alarm integration, power-loss behavior, emergency release, and accessible egress must also meet applicable local rules.
Founded in 2010 in Shenzhen, China, YUNSHAO manufactures turnstile gates for commercial, industrial, and specialized entrance projects. We support OEM/ODM customization of gate housings, dimensions, finishes, passage configurations, and facial recognition terminal mounting arrangements.
YUNSHAO can help evaluate compatible facial recognition devices, access controllers, and third-party software integration based on project requirements. Our turnstile gates come with a three-year limited warranty covering qualifying manufacturing defects, subject to the published warranty policy, plus lifetime technical support. Warranty terms for third-party recognition devices may differ.
Often yes, if the gate has a suitable control interface and space for a compatible terminal. The existing controller, power supply, wiring, and software must be reviewed first.
Some terminals support local recognition or offline operation, but enrollment, permission updates, and event synchronization vary by model. Confirm offline behavior before deployment.
Speed gates and swing turnstile gates are common choices for commercial entrances. Tripod and full-height models may be more suitable for certain industrial or perimeter applications.
Yes, many systems can support multiple credential types when the selected readers, controller, and software are compatible. A backup credential may also be appropriate for accessibility and privacy.
Security depends on the recognition device, anti-spoofing capabilities, authorization rules, network protection, and physical gate design. No biometric system should be treated as infallible; assess risks and applicable privacy requirements.
